GROOVE, GLAMOUR, GLITTER & DRAMA

Costume Guide: “Studio 54 Style” – Disco Looks for Men and Women
(Perfect for a Funky Murder Mystery, '70s Party, or Dance-Fueled WhoDunnit)

The disco era was all about shine, swagger, and showmanship. Think mirror balls, soul trains, and fashion choices that scream, “I didn’t come here to whisper.” Whether you’re doing the hustle or dodging questions about what happened in the VIP lounge, disco fashion lets you dress like the glittery suspect you were born to be.

EXAMPLE LOOKS OF 1970S THROUGH THE DECADES.

🕺 Men’s Disco Costume Guide: “Groove & Glamour”

Signature Style:

  • Bold printed shirt – loud colors, swirling patterns, open to the navel if you wish

  • Bell-bottom pants – solid color or funky print

  • Platform shoes or Cuban heels – tall, shiny, and questionable on staircases

  • Chain necklace – gold is best, medallion optional

  • Big sunglasses – tinted lenses, preferably ridiculous

  • Wide collar jackets or leisure suits – pastel, velvet, or anything that makes noise when you move

Optional Extras:

  • Chest hair wig (no judgment)

  • Shiny scarf tied like a neckerchief

  • Glitter (just… everywhere) but clear with your mystery host first, please

💃 Women’s Disco Costume Guide: “Glitter & Drama”

Signature Style:

  • Halter jumpsuit or wrap dress – metallic, sequined, or spandex (ideally all three)

  • High-waisted flared pants with a crop top or bandeau

  • Platform heels or strappy sandals – sparkle welcome, stability optional

  • Big hoop earrings and layered necklaces

  • Bold makeup – glitter shadow, glossy lips, and dramatic lashes

  • Farrah Fawcett hair or huge curls (natural or wig)

Optional Extras:

  • Feather boa or faux fur stole

  • Bangles stacked to your elbows

  • Clutch that doubles as a murder weapon

  • Temporary star tattoos or body glitter

Character Archetypes:

  • Disco Diva – Headliner at the club, voice like velvet, shade like thunder

  • Roller Queen – Shows up on skates, rolls right over clues

  • Social Climber – Dances near the booth and drops names like glitter

  • Dancefloor Detective – Grooving while grilling suspects

✨ Disco Character Behavior Tips:

  • Strut, don’t walk. Glide everywhere with hips, flair, and unnecessary finger guns.

  • Strike poses. If no one’s watching, pretend they are.

  • Talk in dance metaphors. “You stepped on the wrong toes, baby.”

  • Refer to everything as “far out,” “solid,” or “a total buzzkill.”

  • Stay suspiciously cool under pressure. Disco’s not dead—just hiding something.

Whether you’re staying alive or covering up a crime under the strobes, disco fashion ensures you’ll look fabulous while doing it. Just don’t forget your alibi—or your glitter.
